MUST – MUSEO DEL TERRITORIO VIMERCATESE
includedIts 14 rooms take visitors on a journey from the Roman world to the contemporary age, recounting the evolution of the territory, its communities and the transformations that have shaped its identity.
The MUST – Museum of the Territory It is the civic museum of the Municipality of Vimercate, dedicated to eastern Brianza, the area between the Lambro and Adda rivers. Since 2010, it has been located in the south wing of the 18th-century Villa Sottocasa, in the heart of the historic centre. The exhibition route occupies 14 rooms on two floors covering approximately 1,000 square metres: on the ground floor, the narrative follows a chronological order, from Roman times to the Middle Ages and the feudal period up to the 19th century; on the first floor, more recent themes are explored in depth, such as industrial development, transformations of the territory and the identity of local cultures.
Archaeological finds, works of art, objects, models, documents and videos are presented with the aid of multimedia technologies, making the content accessible and engaging.
The Museum collects, preserves and displays cultural testimonies of various kinds to construct a rigorous yet evocative narrative, capable of translating complex materials into clear, contemporary language.
In a world marked by rapid change, migration and globalisation, MUST also places its narrative in the present, as a space for dialogue between different cultures and memories: not just a repository of the past, but a place of research, knowledge and participation.
