I Tesori della Ca’ Granda

"The Treasures of the Ca' Granda" is a museum collection that houses part of the immense collections of the former Ospedale Maggiore, now the Policlinico di Milano, fruit of commissions from its benefactors, as well as bequests and donations.
Thanks to this exhibition space, it is now possible to admire a selection of pictorial masterpieces that have never before been on permanent display. In addition to representing works of unquestionable artistic value, the paintings of the benefactors allow us to get to know their stories, from various eras and of different social backgrounds, all united by the affection and gratitude of the citizens towards the Hospital. Stories that are ancient but still topical, because the generosity has never stopped and even today the Hospital commissions and creates new paintings for new benefactors.
In addition to portraits, one of the most interesting collections is that of medical instruments, which the Museum exhibits only in part due to the large number of objects received: this is an interesting and rare case of a collection developed within a hospital institution of ancient foundation, consisting of more than 2,000 pieces in continuous growth. It is a testimony to how the Ospedale Maggiore was a pioneering institution in the scientific field even at the dawn of modern medicine, always attentive to the application of therapeutic innovations and the cradle of great medical-scientific discoveries that still place it at the top of international health care.
