Workers' Village of Crespi d'Adda (BG)

The workers' village of Crespi d'Adda was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries by the Crespi family. Next to their textile factory, it was built 'the ideal city of work' to accommodate employees and their families.
The Crespi settlement was designed to become a residential centre structured on the model of 19th-century garden cities and equipped with extremely innovative services including electric lighting and water supply.
The workers' village, completed in the late 1920s, has remained virtually unchanged over time and is the most intact and best-preserved example of a workers' village in Europe.
Precisely for this reason, it is considered a jewel of industrial archaeology and since 1995, UNESCO has decided to include Crespi d'Adda in the WHL as 'Exceptional example of the workers' village phenomenon, the most complete and best preserved in Southern Europe'..
Crespi d'Adda is an oasis of peace to be discovered slowly, in line with the rhythms of the past. It lies between two rivers and in a protected area of the Adda Nord Park, ideal for walks in the green on foot or by bicycle.

Visitor Centre

Inside the village, the Visitor Centre was inaugurated, the result of the renovation of the spaces of a former school that enriches the visitor's experience by bringing together all the information on the history of the industrial village, making it available through multimedia supports touch screen. In addition, there are orientation and reception services, teaching rooms and workshops designed for young people and students and offers archival photographic material on display or accessible via PC.

In addition, the Info Point within the Visitor Centre is included in the official network of tourist information points of the Lombardy Region, an opportunity to expand the visibility of the site throughout the region.

This intervention is the latest in a series of operations to enhance the former industrial village of Crespi d'Adda, ranging from the recovery of the former caretaker's house, to the wash house, to the hydroelectric power station.
