On the border between Lombardy e Switzerland the Rhaetian Railway, declared World Heritage Site at 2008.
In particular, the Bernina line colleague Tiranoin Valtellina, in Saint Moritzin the Engadine, overcoming the steep climbs of the Bernina Pass - a 2,256 metres - without a rack, but thanks to the natural grip of convoys.
This extraordinary route, which combines an important logistical function for the freight to a strong call tourist, crosses Alpine landscapes of rare beauty between valleys, viaducts and mountain passes.
Still going strong today, the Rhaetian Railway - traversed by the famous Bernina red train - represents a virtuous example of integration between infrastructure and environmentexpressing a pattern sustainable of coexistence between man and nature.
