Torre di Castelvecchio – museo Corrado Bocchi
includedThe Torre di Castelvecchio | Museo Corrado Bocchi, is the highest building in Castel Goffredo from which it is possible to admire the town and beyond. Located in Piazza Mazzini, the main square and Renaissance heart of the town, it has always been a reference point for citizens.
It was built in the 13th century to be one of the entrance gates to Castelvecchio, the town's first nucleus. Over the centuries, the building underwent numerous changes to adapt to the needs of the ever-expanding town: in 1438, under the protection of the Gonzaga family, it went from being an entrance gate to its current conformation as a tower with the installation of the first clock, and in the following decades it was raised further to its current height of 27 metres.
With an internal staircase of no less than 117 steps, today the Castelvecchio Tower presents itself to visitors on 7 floors. It houses a museum tour that tells the story of the walls, gates, moat and ravelin belonging to the two defensive walls of Castel Goffredo.
Then, walking along a striking spiral staircase, one passes through the belfry to reach the Belvedere on the top floor. From here, turning your gaze to the horizon, you see the Po Valley, interrupted to the north by the Pre-Alps. On clearer days, looking southwards, the horizon also offers the visitor the first roughness of the Apennines.
