Torino Porta Nuova dates back to 1861, the year in which work began by engineer Alessandro Mazzucchetti. The project combined functional rigour with the representative and monumental characteristics typical of the buildings facing Piazza Carlo Felice. On the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1911, major extension work was carried out to make the station suitable for receiving the numerous visitors.
