Exhibition Centre
Stazione Centrale di Milano
Milan (MI)
Built to a design by architect Ulisse Stacchini, it was inaugurated in 1931 to replace the previous central station of 1864 that stood in what is now Piazza della Repubblica and had become insufficient to absorb the increase in rail traffic. The management of the facilities is entrusted to Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), a company of the Ferrovie dello Stato group, which classifies the station in the 'Platinum' category, while that of the commercial areas of the monumental passenger building is the responsibility of Grandi Stazioni. In November 2010, the station was named after Saint Francesca Cabrini (1850-1917), foundress of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
