Statua di San Carlo Borromeo
includedThe Statue of St Charles was built in Arona, Borromeo's hometown, after his canonisation and in honour of the greatness of the Milanese archbishop: for about two centuries it was the tallest statue in the world. It was completed in 1698 and is 35 metres high.
During opening hours, the panoramic terrace at the foot of the Statue can be reached and, in addition, it is possible to access the interior via a seafaring staircase and reach up to the head of the colossus to admire its internal structure.
Surrounding the Statue is a small botanical park with statues by Milanese artist Marco Mantovani.
Next to the Statue is the Church dedicated to St. Charles, which houses the relics of the Arona saint and canvases narrating the life and mission of St. Charles.
