Sito Archeologico della Domus Romana

The Domus in Via Varrone is the perfect site to discover and savour the most ancient phases of Asti's history, through the suggestions conveyed by the archaeological excavation.
The star of the site is undoubtedly the mosaic, of a quality unique to Piedmont, that decorated the floor of the triclinium, the dining room of this dwelling belonging to a family of decidedly wealthy class.
The Domus must have been not only beautiful and refined - witness the fragments of coloured plaster that made the walls waterproof and aesthetically pleasing - but also equipped with all the comforts of the time: it even had a kind of modern-day 'underfloor heating'. Pillars, belonging to a heating system called 'hypocaust', can still be seen today.
The Domus Romana archaeological site is part of the integrated museum network of Asti Museums. The Smarticket, the ticket to visit the city's museums, is on sale at Palazzo Mazzetti, Corso Alfieri 357.
