PRECETTORIA DI SANT’ANTONIO DI RANVERSO

The Abbey Complex of Sant'Antonio di Ranverso, with the adjoining 15th-century Preceptory Hospital, is a typical example of French Gothic influence. The result of architectural interventions ranging from the late 12th to the 15th century, the Preceptory complex consists mainly of the Church, whose slender apse confirms an adherence to transalpine Gothic style, with an adjoining Sacristy and Cloister. The surrounding buildings make up the so-called 'concentrico', in which the most important structure is represented by the only legible testimony of the entire complex of the Hospitaller Order of the Antonians, namely the ancient hospital, whose façade is characterised by floral Gothic features. The cycle of frescoes "Imago Pietatis" by Giacomo Jaquerio decorates the apse, presbytery and sacristy, while the altar is embellished by the polyptych by Defendente Ferrari, commissioned on 29 April 1530.In 1776, with a Papal Bull by Pope Pius VI, the Hospitaller Order of the Antonians Fathers was suppressed and the property of Ranverso was transferred to the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus.
