In 1966, Presidential Decree No. 624 granted legal status to the Fondazione Biblioteca Morcelli-Pinacoteca Repossi. The name, referring to the founders of the Library and Art Gallery, is a significant testimony of gratitude to Stefano Antonio Morcelli, an erudite ecclesiastic, librarian to Cardinal Albani in Rome and famous epigrapher, who was parish priest of Chiari from 1791 until 1821, and to Pietro Bartolomeo Repossi (1776-1854), born in the Milan area, lawyer and great lover and collector of works and art objects. Today, the Foundation represents not only the synthesis and compendium of the cultural, scholastic and civic-social history of the town of Chiari, but is also the inescapable infrastructure between political, administrative, cultural and educational institutions, to which to draw inspiration and to which to return in order to outline and implement effective projects for Chiari and its human fabric.
