GRANDE BRERA – PINACOTECA DI BRERA e PALAZZO CITTERIO
includedBRERA PICTURE GALLERY
Officially established in 1809 at the behest of Napoleon Bonaparte, the Art Gallery grew out of the nucleus of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1776. The historical requisitions of churches and convents have given the collection a strong sacred identity, enriched over time by targeted acquisitions.
From 2015, institutional autonomy has transformed the museum into a dynamic cultural centre, placing the visitor in the centre of the experience. Through the Dialogues between resident masterpieces and guest works, Brera is constantly renewing its layout and offering for an international audience.
The exhibition route follows an order chronological and by regional schools (Lombardy, Veneto, Marche), enhanced by LED lighting and warm tones. Transparency and accessibility define this modern and interactive reality, complemented by the digital platform Brera Plus+, open 24 hours a day.
CITTERIO PALACE
The halls on the piano nobile create a natural bridge to the Pinacoteca, starting from the late 19th century up to the new Room 40, which returns to the public the famous Fiumana by Pellizza da Volpedo.
Two exceptional routes branch off from the central hall: the Jesi Collection and the Vitali Collection. Together they offer over 200 works of absolute masters such as Picasso, Boccioni, Modigliani, Morandi and Carrà, introduced by portraits of donors by Marino Marini.
The offer is expanded with the Subterranean Stirling Hall and the vast rooms on the second floor dedicated to temporary exhibitions. The architectural intervention enhances the historicity of the building, transforming it into a space inclusive and multifunctional, designed for constant dialogue with the city.
