PINACOTECA CIVICA LEVIS
includedThe museum was created by the artist himself who, upon his death, donated his entire oeuvre to the community for educational and social purposes. The layout follows the chronology of G.A. Levis (Chiomonte 1873-Racconigi 1926): the first decade of the 20th century is dedicated to landscape painting en plein air, following the example of Lorenzo Delleani. At the turn of the 1910s, Levis travelled to Holland, Libya and Russia: atmospheres and lights that would be a source of inspiration and study for decades to come. He participated as a volunteer in the Great War, portraying a lucid reportage of the 'front' in about seventy tablets. In his last years, he returned to the Alpine landscape: colours became the undisputed and expressive protagonists of the composition. A further room is dedicated to the Peasant World, a trait d'union with the Ethnographic Collection and the reconstruction of the Chiomonte Kindergarten classroom. Finally, a room in the Museum houses the current temporary exhibitions.
