PALAZZO LA MARMORA

Biella (BI)
AM Tessera Piemonteincluded
Palazzo La Marmora stands in Piazzo, Biella's historic village. Its frescoed rooms narrate the exploits of Sebastiano Ferrero, the ambassador Filippo and Raffaella, mother of the La Marmora generals, and also mention the descendants of Leon Battista Alberti. A 16th-century tower overlooks the garden with its terraces and restored nymphaeum, while the first floor impresses with the Grand Gallery and ballroom.

La Marmora Palace, located in the historic village of Piazzo, is a House Museum shaped by seventeen generations of the family Ferrero della Marmora (today Mori Ubaldini degli Alberti La Marmora). The building retains a unified architectural structure, distinguished by its elegant neoclassical façade.

On the ground floor, between the Fireplace Hall, the Hall of Castlesthe Green Lounge, the Alcove Hall and the Hall of Motti, every detail tells the story of its illustrious inhabitants: from Sebastiano Ferrero, General of Finances of the Duchy of Milan in the 16th century, to the Ambassador Filippo, which sealed royal marriages in the 18th century; from Raffaella, mother of the Risorgimento generals, to the descendants of Leon Battista Alberti.

From 2021, the first floor of the Grand Gallery overlooking the garden, flanked by the Ballroom, decorated by the Galliari brothers, and by the Billiard Hall, which hosts an exhibition dedicated to the Risorgimento and the four La Marmora General Brothers.

The historic garden overlooks Biella and guards a Greenhouse with a Ficus Repens centenary and a Octagonal tower of the early 16th century. Thanks to funds from the PNRR (NextGenerationEU), between 2024 and 2025 a major conservative restoration. The intervention, supervised by the Superintendency, has allowed the oldest part of the garden to be reopened to the public, restoring splendour to the nymphaeum and the system of ramps, preserving the original identity of the place.
