La Art Gallery, founded at the end of the’Nineteenth century, recounts the richness of Valsesian artistic tradition, fuelled over the centuries by the prestigious shipyard of Sacred Mountain of Varallo, of which the museum preserves some of the oldest examples sculptural and pictorial.
The exhibition route winds its way from the Four hundred to nine hundred following the course of time: from the masterpieces of Gaudenzio Ferrari e Tanzio from Varallo, artists of international renown, to the collections of D'Adda Palace, an influential Milanese family who arrived in Varallo in the mid-19th century. The Natural History Museum, inaugurated in 1867, bears the name of its founder, the Valsesian priest Pietro Calderini. Originally known as place of education, with naturalistic materials designed as teaching tools for Technical Schools, over time becomes the hub of scientific studies in Valsesia. The scientific collections are gradually being supplemented by collections archaeological e demoethnoanthropological, transforming the original museum into a veritable Cabinet of curiosities.
