includedCarignano Palace was built at the behest of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy-Carignano designed by Guarino Guarini, which started its construction in 1679. Considered one of the most evocative and monumental palaces of the Italian 17th century, is distinguished by the sinuous facade and for the brick cladding, worked with refined and original craftsmanship.
The building stands on the area once occupied by the stables of Prince Thomas, progenitor of the cadet branch of the Savoie-Carignano, and originally presented a C-shaped plan open to the gardens. The current configuration quadrangular derives from the 19th century extension built to house the Italian Parliament, completed in 1871 after the transfer of the capital to Rome.
The central hall, of elliptical shape, located in the 17th century and once used for parties and receptions, was transformed in the 1848 at hall of the First Subalpine Parliament.
Today, the Palace houses the main floorthe National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento, and at the ground floor the Princes' Apartments. With the 2011 exhibition dedicated to the Legnanino, a stable visit route at Residence of the Savoy-Carignano.
The museum route, which extends over approximately 1,000 m2, consists of accompanied visits through theatrium and the guarinian stairs, overlooking the’hall of the Subalpine Parliament, l'Midday Apartment - also called of the Princes' Apartments - a series of underground environments, as well as the’outside and the palace courtyard.
