Museo Tazio Nuvolari

The museum is housed in the former Carmelino church and collects the trophies, plaques and cups won by the 'Flying Mantuan'.
The 'Tazio Nuvolari' Museum is dedicated to the memory of the unforgettable champion that Ferdinand Porsche described as 'the greatest driver of the past, present and future'. Nuvolari (Castel d'Ario 1892 - Mantua 1953) competed in over 350 motorbike and car races between 1920 and 1950, achieving no less than 161 victories (91 overall and 70 in class), 2 European champion titles, 5 Italian champion titles and 5 international speed records.
The valuable museum is housed in the former Carmelino church, located along the 'Prince's Route', which connects the Ducal Palace to Palazzo Te, the two most important monuments in the city.
It collects the trophies, plaques and cups won by the 'Flying Mantuan' as well as a rich collection of gold medals, evidence of a sporting career and life that have become legendary.
Of great impact are the champion's personal effects: helmets, gloves, goggles, overalls and the inseparable yellow jersey. Also in evidence are posters, autographed letters, certificates, honours, documents. These include the telegram sent by Gabriele D'Annunzio after his victory in the 1932 Targa Florio, accompanied by a reproduction of the famous golden tortoise with the dedication 'To the fastest man, the slowest animal'. Original period films projected on a large screen and an exhibition of precious scale models allow visitors to relive the excitement of motor racing in the first half of the 20th century.
