The Museo Storico Nazionale d'Artiglieria (National Artillery Museum) is the oldest of the Italian Army museums, currently located in its main premises at the Mastio della Cittadella. The Mastio houses an exhibition dedicated to the technological evolution of weapons with particular reference to artillery. In the Museum Depot, which can be visited upon accreditation, it is possible to appreciate a vast collection of different museum collections whose variety makes the Museum unique.

The National Artillery Museum is among the first European institutions of its kind and among the oldest museums in Turin. Its origins date back to 1731 when, at the behest of Charles Emmanuel III of Savoy, King of Sardinia, it was established at the Royal Arsenal for the use of young artillerymen. In 1893 the museum was moved to the Mastio della Cittadella and in 1961, on the occasion of the centenary of the Unification of Italy, it was enlarged.

Its museum collections comprise various collections totalling over 12,000 artefacts including: Angelucci Collection, armour, trappings, headgear (helmets, helmets, hats of arms, uniform hats), shields (African), sabres, bayonets, daggers, bladed weapons, halberds, spears, pole arms, thrown weapons (African), rifles sub-machine guns, pistols, plates, powder flasks, cannons, mortars, bombards, machine guns, ammunition, grenades, rifle tools, flags, banners, models, uniforms, paintings on canvas and wood, prints and musical instruments. The Museum also has an archive, a photographic fund and a library that allow historians, researchers and enthusiasts to carry out in-depth and specialised studies. The permanent exhibition on the ground floor of the Mastio della Cittadella can be visited all year round.
