MUSEO SAN GIACOMO

The museum, opened to the public in 2008, is housed within the complex consisting of the 17th-century three-nave Church of San Giacomo, the sacristy and the Regency House. It houses some of the most significant testimonies to the history of Lu and its territory.

Among the most valuable works is the canvas The Canons of Lu by Guala, an excellent example of an 18th century Italian group portrait; followed by paintings by Luigi Onetti, a landscape and portrait painter and exponent of Piedmontese social verism. There are also canvases by the painter Orsola Maddalena Caccia - one of the protagonists of the Italian Baroque - and from the workshop of her father Guglielmo, together with wooden sculptures, gold work, sacred vestments, reliquaries and objects related to daily life in the village.

The museum houses over a hundred artefacts dating from the 15th to the 20th century, from church buildings and private homes in Lu and the surrounding area, many of which have been restored to their original splendour thanks to the Association's efforts.

It has an agreement with the FAI - Fund for the Italian Environment and with theAMEI - Association of Italian Ecclesiastical Museums. It is also part of the Museum System of the Diocese of Casaleof the MoMu Network - Monferrato Musei and is included in the Cities and Cathedralspromoted by the CRT Foundation.
