MUSEO MAT – MUSEO ARTE TEMPO
includedRare examples of tower clock mechanisms from all eras, belonging to the Gorla Collection entrusted to Clusone by the Province of Bergamo, tell the visitor about the challenge of creativity and ingenuity to the unstoppable passing of time, whether it be an instant fixed on canvas or the chiming that marks the dance of the hours.
The works on display are essentially divided into three sections dedicated to painting and sculpture, tower clocks, and a selection of furniture, collected by the Sant'Andrea family.
The MAT also houses in its collection the Archive of the photographer Cesare Cristilli, active in Clusone since 1905, and witness with his workshop
of more than a century of the town's history.
A fascinating itinerary from the 15th century to the present day that, by filigree-rendering the history, cultural vitality and deep soul of Clusone, continues ideally in the City, between the 16th-century Planetary Clock by Pietro Fanzago, one of the most important and ancient astronomical clocks in the world, which stands on the Civic Tower in the splendid setting of Piazza Orologio, and the disquieting warning about time running away of the famous Dance Macabre, frescoed on the façade of the ancient Oratory of the Disciplines, in the monumental Basilica complex.
