MUSEO MANZONIANO | CASA DEL MANZONI
includedThe Museo Manzoniano is located in the house in which Manzoni lived for almost sixty years, from 1814 to 1873, the year of his death. In 1874 the heirs sold it and it was a private house until 1937 when it became the seat of the Centro Nazionale Studi Manzoniani (National Centre for Manzonian Studies), established in that year by Royal Decree Law. The Museum, opened to the public in 1965, is housed in the Manzoni family flat on the first floor, and in two rooms on the ground floor: Manzoni's study and the Grossi room, now the Sala degli Amici. The original furniture was dispersed among the heirs, only the study on the ground floor and the bedroom where Manzoni died retain the original furnishings. The museum rooms contain numerous portraits of the writer, his family and friends, paintings, autographs and documents of family interest, as well as the first or rarest editions of his works, numerous oil paintings and prints depicting The Betrothed.
