Museo Internazionale della Croce Rossa
Castiglione delle Stiviere (MN)

The International Red Cross Museum traces the origins and evolution of the most important international humanitarian organisation and documents its roots in modern Italy. An extraordinary journey, among testimonies of the past, voices of the present and interactive technologies.
he International Red Cross Museum bears witness to the circumstances that inspired Henry Dunant to create what is now the largest international humanitarian organisation, the Red Cross. Founded in Geneva in 1863, it was the founder's inspiration prompted by the relief work of the women of Castiglione who were ready to help thousands of wounded at the Battle of Solferino (24 June 1859). The Museum's collection is rich in relics, surgical and medical instruments, relief vehicles, prints, photographs and documents that testify not only to the origins and evolution of the Red Cross but also to the progress of modern medical science, the development and organisation of relief and the birth of international humanitarian law.
