MUSEO DONIZETTIANO

The Maestro's words and music, accompanied by in-depth multimedia stations, guide the entire route. The exhibition retraces the composer's biography, from his birth in 1797 into a family of humble origins, to the discovery of his musical talent at a young age, through the years of his training in Bergamo and Bologna, to the peak of his career in the main Italian and European theatres: Naples, Rome, Palermo, Vienna and Paris. The museum offers a fascinating journey through autograph scores, portraits, letters, and objects that belonged to Donizetti, such as the Viennese piano on which he loved to compose, or the briefcases with his travel and writing utensils. The lithograph of Panthéon musical shows caricatures of the main musicians active in Paris in 1843, including one of Donizetti in the form of a master of the Habsburg court, intent on churning out scores at an industrial pace. The tour ends with a reconstruction of the room with original furniture from the room where the famous Bergamasque died.
The Donizettiano Museum is one of the six sites of the Bergamo History Museum network, a diffuse historical museum that tells the history of Bergamo, from Roman times to the 20th century.
