MUSEO DIOCESANO FOSSANO
includedThe Diocesan Museum of Fossano houses a rich heritage, arranged in five exhibition halls, consisting of precious religious works: paintings, wooden sculptures, silver artefacts and vestments, from the 17th to the 18th century, works from the parishes, confraternities or religious bodies of the Diocese. One of the five rooms houses a rich gallery of portraits of benefactors, bearing witness to the epic of charity, a singular expression of the pious society of Fossano in the 17th century. The profound humanity and piety in the faces of the fascinating Baroque wooden sculptures, created in the workshops of Plura, Nicola and Andora, protagonists of the evocative religious ceremonies of Holy Week, and the other works imbued with sacredness evoke and communicate to the visitor fragments of the life and traditions that made Fossano a fervent centre of worship. Under the historical and religious profile, incisive figures such as Fossano's patron saint San Giovenale, bishop of Narni, and the Blessed Oddino Barotti, provost of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria and San Giovenale, stand out. The museum is currently closed for restoration.
