MUDI – MUSEO DIOCESANO DI ALBA
includedSince 2012, the Museum has been recounting the multi-millennial history of the city of Alba and the various construction phases of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo: from the remains of the Roman public area, site of the civil basilica from the 1st-2nd century A.D., to the foundation of the first church in the 6th century with its baptismal font, from the early medieval and Romanesque transformations to the panoramic view of the city through the mullioned windows of the medieval bell tower, which conceals an older bell tower inside. The Diocesan Museum also houses the lapidary set up in the crypt of St. Peter's, a heterogeneous collection of stones and marbles, some of which are already preserved in the rooms of the Rectory, some of which have emerged from recent excavations, and others recovered from the Bishop's Palace. The museum and the archaeological itinerary can be visited independently, with the support of the didactic and multimedia apparatus, and accompanied by a specialised guide. The tour can be completed by visiting the 16th-century cathedral with its later Baroque and 19th-century renovations.
