MUSEO DELLE LANGHE
includedBuilt in the first half of the 11th century and enlarged between the 13th and 14th centuries, Grinzane Cavour Castle was the home of Count Camillo Benso of Cavour from 1832 to 1849. Today it houses the Langhe Museum and thePiedmontese Regional Enoteca Cavourfirst of its kind in Piedmont.
Among the most striking settings are the Hall of Masks, famous for its wooden ceiling with painted entablatures dating from 1547, a venue for important meetings and events, and the Hall of Frescoswith cross vaults decorated in the late 17th and early 18th century, which houses the permanent exhibition 'Wine and health'curated by the National Wine Observatory. It illustrates, with a scientific and popular slant, the benefits of moderate and conscious wine consumption.
A section of the museum is dedicated to the white truffle of Alba and the great wines of Langhe and Roerowhile the ethnographic museum reconstructs domestic and working environments between the 17th and 20th centuries. An entire room is reserved for Cavour, with his bedroom, personal memorabilia, explanatory panels and a film detailing his activities as a wine entrepreneur in the castle.
L'Piedmontese Regional Enoteca Cavour offers an excellent selection of wines, grappas and typical local products. Completing the offer is a restaurant and one cafeteria overlooking the picturesque inner courtyard.
