Castle
MUSEO DELLE LANGHE

The Castle of Grinzane Cavour, built in the first half of the 11th century and enlarged in the 13th and 14th, was the residence of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour from 1832 to 1849. It houses the new Langhe Museum and the Cavour Piedmontese Regional Enoteca. The Sala delle Maschere (Hall of Masks), a venue for prestigious meetings and events, has a painted trabeated ceiling dating back to 1547; the Sala degli affreschi (Hall of Frescoes) has cross vaults with paintings dating back to the late 1600s-early 1700s: today it is the site of the permanent exhibition 'Wine and Health', organised by the National Wine Observatory, which highlights from a technical and scientific point of view, and through a fascinating itinerary, the positive correlations between moderate and conscious consumption of wine and health. One room is dedicated to the white truffle of Alba and the great wines of the Langhe and Roero. The ethnographic museum displays domestic and work settings from the 17th to the 20th century. There is also a room dedicated to the great Piedmontese statesman, which houses his bedroom, some memorabilia, including his mayoral sash and an autographed municipal resolution, explanatory panels and a film on his specific activity as a wine entrepreneur on the Grinzane Cavour castle estate. The Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, the first to be set up in Piedmont, boasts a selected range of wines, grappas and typical local products. The manor house's hospitality is completed by an elegant restaurant and a cafeteria in the charming inner courtyard.
