Museo della Frutta Francesco Garnier Valletti
includedThe Francesco Garnier Valletti Fruit Museum houses an extraordinary collection of over a thousand artificial fruit models, made at the end of the 19th century by Francesco Garnier Valletti. The works, owned by the Turin Operations Section of the Experimental Institute for Plant Nutrition of via Ormea 47, were granted on loan to the City of Turin in 1999.
The museum tour, through the reconstruction of analysis laboratories, of the halls of the pomology collectionof the library and thedirector's office of the Via Ormea station - all furnished with original elements - enhances a valuable historical and scientific heritage, tracing the history of the agricultural research in Turin from 1871 to the present day.
Heart of the museum is the spectacular pomological collection, consisting of hundreds of varieties of apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums and grapes, made between 1927 and 1935. Restored and finally on public display, the collection also offers an opportunity to learn about the life and work of Francesco Garnier Valletti (Giaveno, 1808 - Turin, 1889), a brilliant and visionary figure of a craftsman, artist and scientist.
A visit to the Fruit Museum is a journey into the past and, at the same time, an invitation to reflect on a highly topical issue: the biodiversity.
