Museum of Natural Science
Museo della Frutta Francesco Garnier Valletti

The Museum presents the collection of one thousand and more 'plastic artificial fruits' modelled at the end of the 19th century by Francesco Garnier Valletti, owned by the Turin Operations Section of the Experimental Institute for Plant Nutrition in Via Ormea 47, which were loaned to the City in 1999.
Through the reconstruction of the analysis laboratories, the rooms of the pomological collection, the library, the office of the director of the Station in Via Ormea with their original furnishings, it enhances its precious historical-scientific heritage and follows its history - from the construction of the Agricultural Chemistry Station in 1871 to the present day - in the context of a little-known aspect of the city's history: the evolution of applied agricultural research in Turin between the 19th and 20th centuries.
At the heart and centre of the Museum is its extraordinary pomological collection, consisting of hundreds of varieties of apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, grapes... acquired between 1927 and 1935, finally on display to the public after being carefully restored and studied, also offering the opportunity to learn about the life and work of Francesco Garnier Valletti, born in Giaveno in 1808 and died in Turin in 1889, a brilliant and eccentric craftsman, artist and scientist.
A plunge into the past that is also an opportunity to reflect on the highly topical issue of biodiversity.
