Museo della Civiltà Contadina Il Cambonino Vecchio
Cremona (CR)
included Stepping through the door of the “Cambonino Vecchio” farmstead means taking an authentic plunge into the past. Today home to the Museo della Civiltà Contadina (Museum of Rural Civilisation), this structure allows us to rediscover a not too distant rural world, in which the roots of our history and traditions are rooted.
The visit turns into a sensory and emotional journey where every environment tells a story and where, even today, living evidence of life in the fields can still be felt.
The Exhibition Route: Spaces and Memory
Walking around the farmstead, one passes through the places that were the focus of everyday life in the past:
- The Hague and the Barchessali: The beating heart of communal life. Under the large arcades (the barchessali) the great protagonists of work in the fields are enshrined: vintage wagons and historic agricultural machinery.
- The Farmer's House: Upon entering the rooms of the house, one is projected into the domestic dimension of the past, faithfully set up with everyday tools, household items and the simple toys with which the children were amused.
- The Old Barn and the Bügadéera: In the old stable, working tools related to cattle breeding are on display. Next to it, the typical bügadéera (the laundry) invites one to imagine the slow and laboured gestures of women intent on doing laundry with ashes.
- The Cellar: A cool and evocative place that shows visitors how people used to prepare, care for and wine was stored.
- The Little Oratory: Before concluding the visit, a stop at this small inner church is a must. True element of architectural merit, the oratory represents the spiritual dimension that inextricably bound the peasant community together.
The Value of Memory
The role of this museum is fundamental to Valuing and not forgetting our origins. It is not just a collection of objects, but a cultural garrison necessary to pass on the soul of an era, preserving the deep connection between the land and the community.
