Museo del Giocattolo

Bra (CN)

The Museo del Giocattolo's collection began 'almost as a joke' from the passion for toys of the Braidese antiquarian Michele Chiesa, who managed to create an important collection that includes not only industrial or handcrafted products, but also toys from family and/or popular production with peculiar characteristics for the history of play.

The toy collection has been on display in the Giovanni Arpino Cultural Centre in Bra since 2007. The games: dolls, miniature shops, tin figures and tin toys, wooden games and also toys from the more recent past are exhibited in six themed rooms: a reception room - a room dedicated to objects and games in use in early childhood - the doll room - the school - the men's games room - the room of the little theatres and comic strips. There is also a room/workshop that can be actively used by visitors: children can stop and play, mothers can possibly breastfeed on a comfortable chair, and workshops are organised for visiting classes. In the workshops, it is possible to make one's own toy, also using recycled material, so that toys are not just objects of pure observation and contemplation, but a stimulus to recover memories and playful cultures. And finally, the showcases in the corridor leading to the exit and the showcases in the atrium outside display toys donated to the museum; many people give their grandparents'/parents' childhood toys to the museum so that a trace of the play culture of the past remains
