The Carpenter's Museum Tino Sana, located in Almenno San Bartolomeo (Bergamo), is one of the most important exhibitions in Europe dedicated to woodworking and rural civilisation. The Carpenter's Museum Tino Sana: A Journey into the Wood Civilisation

Born from the passion and determination of its founder, the Carpenter's Museum Tino Sana is spread over an area of 3,500 square metres articulated on three floors. It is not just a collection of objects, but a living tribute to the toil, art and ingenuity of generations of craftsmen.

The Exhibition Route

The journey begins with the raw material: the forest and the tree. The visitor can discover how wood is transformed, starting from the cutting of the tree to the ancient water-powered sawmills.

  • The Craft Shops: The heart of the museum is the faithful reconstruction of old workshops. Here you can admire the tools of the chairmaker, cooper, luthier, inlayer and wheelwright. Period lathes (also dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries) and ingenious machines testify to the technological evolution of the trade.
  • Means of Transport: An extraordinary section is dedicated to wood in motion. Regional farm wagons, sleighs, carriages, boats and unique pieces such as a wooden aircraft from the First World War (belonging to pilot Antonio Locatelli) and a car from 1924.
  • The Felice Gimondi Collection: An entire hall is dedicated to the world of two wheels and to the Bergamo champion Felice Gimondi. The collection traces the evolution of the bicycle, from the first wooden draisine to modern racing bikes, including jerseys, trophies and historical memorabilia.
  • Popular Life and Traditions: The museum also documents rural everyday life with a rich section on poor furniture, kitchen utensils, footwear (such as the classic clogs) and the magical world of the puppets, with the shacks and characters of the Bergamasque tradition.

Philosophy and Education

The Tino Sana Museum does not only look to the past. It is an active cultural centre that houses a specialised library, educational workshops for school classes and spaces for vocational training. The aim is to convey to young people the value of “know-how” and the importance of wood as a renewable and ecological resource.

«Who do you seewill feel what I feel when I see these objects and understand what they represent: the commitment, the effort, the art and above all the love for one of the trades as old as mankind.» - Tino Sana
