MUSEO D’ARTE SACRA SAN MARTINO
includedSituated in the heart of Alzano Lombardo, the San Martino Museum Complex combines the following into a single programme: Basilica, the monumental Sacristies and the Museum of Sacred Art, the latter housed in the evocative 17th-century setting of the ancient Pelliccioli Palace.
La Basilica It stands out as one of the greatest masterpieces of the Lombard Baroque: inside, the splendid stucco work of the Sala’s Workshop, important 18th-century paintings and the famous pulpit, an extraordinary result of the collaboration between Giovan Battista Caniana e Andrea Fantoni. The journey through Baroque art continues in the Three Sacristies, where sculpture blends with decoration and the wooden furniture, masterfully crafted by the historic workshops of the Fantoni and the Caniana.
The museum’s collection houses a rich selection of paintings, sculptures, liturgical furnishings and vestments. Among the absolute masterpieces, the evocative St Christopher by Tintoretto, the dramatic The Martyrdom of Saint Peter of Verona in Palma il Vecchio, alongside major paintings by the Cavagna and the Cifrondi. As well as preserving its heritage, the Complex is a vibrant cultural centre, actively involved in a wide range of outreach and educational activities via exhibitions and events temporary.
