Museo Civico di Crema e del Cremasco

Hosted by 1960 in the historic premises of a a former 15th-century Augustinian convent (which was also used as a barracks in the past), the Civic Museum is the the beating heart of Crema’s identity.

The exhibition itinerary will guide you on a journey of discovery through the local area via extraordinary collections: from archaeological finds from prehistoric, Roman and Lombard times to the rare single-hulled canoes recovered from local rivers, right up to a curious Egyptian section thanks to a donation from Carla Maria Burri.

The art ranges from medieval and modern masterpieces — steeped in Lombard and Venetian influences — right up to the works of local artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, not forgetting the walls painted as frescoes by Giovan Pietro da Cemmo by 1507 which adorn the ancient refectory.

Finally, the museum celebrates local craftsmanship: the glorious organ-building of the shops Inzoli and Tamburini and the historic industrial production of the typewriters, known as the collection of the little machine.
