includedStatues, portraits, amulets charged with symbolic significance. The encounter between the Romans and the ancient Camuni is recounted in the new National Archaeological Museum of the Camonica Valley in Cividate Camuno, some sixty kilometres from Brescia. The new Archaeological Museum opened to the public on 11 June 2021. We are in the ancient Civitas Camunnorum, in the Roman Camonica Valley, one of the most astonishing archaeological sites in the Alps. In this extraordinary treasure chest that exemplifies the Romanisation of a territory through archaeological sites and testimonies, visitors will have the opportunity to follow the Roman presence in its most diverse aspects, from the transformation of the territory to cults, from daily life to public spaces and the funerary sphere. The new museum, located in the city centre, with a rationalised and expanded itinerary compared to the old site, responds to multiple needs: first of all, to give space to a heritage, that which emerged from the excavations, which is continually growing; secondly, to update the itineraries with respect to the refinement of studies and the new horizons of the discipline; and last but not least, to approach a public that has completely different visual habits, styles and models of knowledge compared to the 1980s and which is continually evolving.
