MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO DELLA VALLE SABBIA

GAVARDO (BS)
AM Tessera Lombardiaincluded
Housed in Gavardo in an ancient palace of the Bishop's Curia, the MAVS (Archaeological Museum of the Valle Sabbia) paints a constantly evolving picture of local history. The exhibition guides the visitor through the archaeological discoveries of the Valle Sabbia and western Garda area, documenting the life of human communities from prehistoric times to later periods.
MAVS Museo Archeologico della Valle Sabbia

The halls of the MAVS offer a 100,000-year journey through time: from the Middle Palaeolithic to the post-Renaissance period, the museum outlines the evolution of man, of its settlement strategies and material culture.

The exhibition route, currently undergoing dynamic renovation, highlights the most prestigious sites in the area. These include the extraordinary complex of Monte Covolo, frequented from the Late Neolithic to the Middle Bronze Age, characterised by burial shelters, areas of flint mining and crowning, on top, by an impressive Celtic shrine. Particular emphasis is given to the Lucone piles of Polpenazze, entered the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011. For the Roman era, instead, the protagonist is the rich necropolis of the Lugone di Salò, whose grave goods recount four centuries of funeral rites between I and IV AD.C.

However, the MAVS is not just a static container: is a living research centre. Thanks to the constant cooperation with the Superintendency, collections are continuously enriched through new excavations and field investigations. The museum is a hub of scientific dissemination that enlivens the area with conferences, exhibitions and the publication of their Annals. Finally, great care is devoted to the Educational Services, proposing inclusive paths for schools, families and special audiences, making archaeology an accessible experience for all.
