MUSEO ACCORSI-OMETTO
includedHome to his gallery for more than 60 years, it now presents itself as an extraordinarily richly furnished house.
Located in what was once the 17th-century convent of Sant'Antonio Abate, the Accorsi-Ometto Museum of Decorative Arts is divided into 25 rooms, eight of which are set up as they were at Villa Paola, the residence in Moncalieri where Accorsi used to invite his guests.
Inside, absolute masterpieces such as the double body and chest of drawers by Pietro Piffetti are preserved.
The other rooms, created according to the taste of the antiquarian and the sensitivity of Giulio Ometto, his successor and president of the homonymous institution for over 20 years, preserve important furnishings: from the kneeler by Luigi Prinotto to the coffers attributed to Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo and Francesco Bolgiè; from the French commode with Coromandel lacquer panels to the fortepiano, signed Fratelli Herard and dated 1818.
Surprising objects include the parade tray of Neapolitan manufacture, in tortoiseshell, gold and mother-of-pearl, a gift from Pope Benedict XIV to the Marquis Del Carretto di Gorzegno; the Amorini seller, in biscuit from Meissen; the terracotta sculpture group depicting the Triumph of Virtue (1744) by Francesco Ladatte and the rich collection of snuff boxes, unique in their number and quality of execution.
There are also several paintings, mostly by Piedmontese painters, such as Guglielmo Caccia, known as Moncalvo, Pietro Domenico Olivero, Giovanni Michele Graneri and Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli.
Among the oldest works in the collection are the triptych with the Madonna Enthroned and Saints by the Master of the Medici Chapel Polyptych, dated 1330-1340, the Stories of the Passion of Jesus Christ by the Flemish painter Marcello Coffermans, dated 1550-1560, the panel with Saints Maurice (?) and Lawrence by Giovanni Martino Spanzotti, dated between 1496 and 1500, and the preparatory drawing of the Allegory of the Arno River by Francesco Salviati, made between 1543 and 1545.
