MUSEI REALI DI TORINO – ARMERIA REALE
includedL'Royal Armoury is considered one of the richest collections of ancient weapons and armour in the world, like the’Royal Armoury of Madrid and the Imperial Armoury of Vienna. It is located in the connecting channel between the Royal Palace of Turin and the former Secretariats of State, now home to the Prefecture of Turin, within the complex of Savoy Residences, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997.
Founded in 1837 by Carlo Alberto, the Armoury preserves along the permanent exhibition route artifacts belonging to the House of Savoy, from Emanuele Filiberto to Vittorio Emanuele III. Of particular note are the archaeological and oriental weapons, the medieval weapons, the valuable productions 17th- and 18th-century works from the German and Milanese schools, the firearms from Brescia and Piedmont, the Napoleonic memorabilia and the rich flag collection.
The tour itinerary starts from Royal Medal Collection (1839), commissioned by Carlo Alberto to house numismatic collections and applied art objects, crosses the Beaumont Gallery (1733) and the Roundabout (1842), until reaching the spectacular Staircase by Benedetto Alfieri (1740), which linked the Secretariats of State with the State Archives and the Royal Theatre of Turin.
Since 2011, the route also provides access to the Loggia from which Carlo Alberto, appearing with his children, proclaimed the beginning of the First War of Independence. The visit to the Royal Armoury is unified with that of the main floor of the Royal Palace.
Since 2013, the Medal Collection has hosted an exhibition featuring Renaissance medals from the Royal Medal Collection and antique vases from the Museum of Antiquities of Turin.
La ticket office is located in the Royal Palace. The Royal Armoury also offers guided tours, educational activities and initiatives for families.
