MUSA – SCIENZE E DIRITTI UMANI – Università degli Studi di Milano
includedIn 2017, the University of Milan through LABANOF (Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology - Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health) created the CAL (Labanof Anthropological Collection), a museum collection comprising over 6000 skeletons, including archaeological and contemporary ones, with the aim of making Lombardy's skeletal heritage usable. In February 2018, the collection received recognition as a Museum Collection from the Lombardy Region (D.g.r. 26 February 2018 - n. X/7892). This collection was made possible thanks to the aforementioned 20-year collaboration between the Soprintendenze Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Lombardy and Labanof, and is the only skeletal collection in Lombardy and one of the few of its kind in Europe. The CAL is therefore part of the 'Sistema Museale di Ateneo' and its seat is located at Via Luigi Mangiagalli 37, 20133 - Milan, in the Labanof premises of the Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health. According to its statute, the collection is at the service of the community, it is open to the public and is intended for the study and knowledge of the goods it contains, in order to nurture teaching and training activities, scientific research, as well as the promotion of Third Mission cultural activities (i.e. the involvement of the public outside the university) on topics related to its historical and scientific identity, also aimed at the school system and the general public.
