MUFANT – MuseoLab del Fantastico e della Fantascienza

The MUFANT - Museum of the Fantastic and Science Fiction in Turin It is a one-of-a-kind venue in Italy, entirely dedicated to fantasy, science fiction and horror. Situated on the northern outskirts of the city, in the Borgo Vittoria neighbourhood, the museum presents itself as a fully-fledged integrated cultural centre that explores the myriad facets of wonder and the future through literature, cinema, comics, video games and popular media.

Stepping through the doors of MUFANT is like embarking on a journey through time and space. The permanent exhibition houses a vast collection of over 5,000 objects: from precious vintage books and magazines pulp from the first half of the 20th century, right through to scale models, original film posters, props, action figures and memorabilia linked to the great sagas that have shaped popular culture, such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Alien or collecting items related to superheroes and Japanese robots.

The museum tour is divided into various thematic and interactive sections:

• The Science Fiction section: A historical journey tracing the evolution of the genre from its nineteenth-century origins (from Jules Verne to H.G. Wells) through to cyberpunk and contemporary visions, via the great space epics.
• The Fantasy and Gothic section: Spaces dedicated to the worlds of myth, folklore and the Gothic novel, right through to modern epic fantasy, made famous by authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien.
• The TV, Cinema and Media sector: Visual collections, clips and reproductions dedicated to cult series and iconic films that have shaped science fiction on the big and small screen.
• The Park of the Fantastic: Outside the museum, a public urban space has been transformed into an open-air exhibition route, featuring art installations and sculptures dedicated to the great masters of fantasy fiction.

As well as its permanent collection, MUFANT is a dynamic centre: it regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, festivals, author talks, workshops and art exhibitions. With its approach that is both accessible and, at the same time, rigorous from a historical and cultural perspective, it serves as a key point of reference both for enthusiasts in the field and for curious visitors and families keen to explore the boundaries of the human imagination.
