GALLERIE D'ITALIA - MILAN

The Gallerie d'Italia in Milan overlooks the central Piazza della Scala and through three historic buildings of exquisite architecture presents a varied cultural itinerary, which includes a collection dedicated to the 19th century, which also includes the collections of the Fondazione Cariplo, the Cantiere del '900 itinerary dedicated to 20th century art and the Giardino di Alessandro, a corner of art and greenery enclosed between palazzo Anguissola and the home of the illustrious writer. Among the most fascinating works are the thirteen plaster bas-reliefs by Antonio Canova, inspired by Homer and Virgil, and the canvases rich in pathos and history by Francesco Hayez. The collection then moves into the 20th century, with works by Umberto Boccioni and Lucio Fontana. Alongside the permanent collections, the museum periodically organises major temporary exhibitions, in collaboration with prestigious Italian and international museums and institutions, as well as dossier exhibitions dedicated to history, photography and contemporary art, always accompanied by a variety of cultural initiatives.
