The value of the works and the calibre of the artists represented give the Giannoni Gallery a leading role in the national museum scene. Among the artists featured are, among others: Francesco Filippini, Felice Casorati, Giovanni Segantini, Gaetano Previati, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, Plinio Nomellini, Guido Boggiani, Enrico Lionne, Giovanni Sottocornola, Pio Sanquirico, Eugenio Gignous, Leonardo Bazzaro, Rubaldo Merello, Carlo Fornara, Luigi Steffani, Giovanni Battista Ciolina, Angelo Morbelli, Beppe Ciardi, Sergio Bonfantini and Sebastiano Vassalli.
The collection stems from a generous donation by the Novara-based collector. Alfredo Giannoni, who in the 1930s donated his artistic heritage to the Municipality of Novara.
After a long period of closure to the public, from 1986 to March 2011, the gallery was reopened on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150 years of Italian unification. Starting at the end of 2020, the headquarters underwent major renovation work. restyling and refurbishment, culminating in its reopening to the public on 25 September 2021, according to a new and revamped exhibition layout.
