included The Fort of Vinadio stands out as one of the pinnacles of military architecture in the entire Alpine region. Commissioned by King Carlo Alberto, the imposing fortification was erected between 1834 and 1847: a time span of only eleven years - despite a suspension between 1837 and 1839 - that was enough to consign to history an authentic masterpiece of engineering and technical avant-garde.
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alpsthe Fort Albertin of Vinadio represents one of the most important examples of military architecture of the entire Alpine arc.
Wanted by King Charles Albert, was built between 1834 and 1847, with an interruption between 1837 and 1839. In just eleven years took shape one of the most impressive fortifications of the time, an authentic masterpiece of engineering and military strategy.
The structure develops along a path of approx. 10 kilometres articulated on three levels and divided into three fronts: Upper Front, Attack Front e Lower Front.
Today, the Fort hosts numerous cultural and immersive experiences:
- The multimedia route Mountains in Motion invites you to explore Alpine civilisation in time and space: an interactive journey through history, nature and culture that tells of the profound intertwining between the’man and the mountain environment.
- Within the Neraissa Gate the permanent exhibition is set up Winged Messengers, which, thanks to digital installations and audiovisual content, traces the history of the Military Dovecote of the Fort.
- Since 2017, the public can also experience the Vinadio Virtual Reality: two stations of virtual reality that offer an innovative and engaging way to explore the fortification.
- The Fort is also at family size: with the project Mammy that's cool!proposes itineraries Family and Kids Friendly designed to help children discover the history and culture of the place in a fun and accessible way.
