Ecomuseo delle Rocche del Roero
Non in abbonamentoThe Rocche del Roero Ecomuseum was set up in 2003 by the Piedmont Region and works to protect and promote the hilltop villages that rise on the Rocche ridge, a geological phenomenon of erosion that crosses the Roero for 40 km.The Rocche were formed about 250,000 years ago, when the Tanaro river diverted its course, creating deep chasms and steep sand walls. A delicate ecosystem rich in biodiversity, in which arid environments and wetlands cohabit in a few hundred metres of altitude. The Eco-museum has created a network of thematic Paths that cross this ecosystem, usable independently by hikers: an open-air museum along the woods and Rocche del Roero, to be explored on foot or by mountain bike. For each Trail there is a free audio guide (in Italian and English) via the Izi.Travel app to download onto your smartphone: as you walk at your own pace, a narrator's voice is automatically activated by GPS at the points of interest of the Trails, narrating in-depth information, stories and curiosities, and the intuitive geolocalised map guides you along the trail.
