Ecomuseo del marmo di Frabosa Soprana

Frabosa Soprana (CN)
Fuori circuito Non in abbonamento
The Frabosa Soprana Marble Ecomuseum, which operates in synergy with the efficient Bossea Caves, aims to reopen as visitor routes the ancient quarry sites from which marble destined for the Baroque buildings of Piedmont was extracted.

Material culture, knowledge and relations between man and the environment: this is how the Marble Ecomuseum operates in Frabosa Soprana, describing the territory, its transformations and enhancing local culture. Thanks to the involvement of the local population and cultural and educational institutions, through the conservation and restoration of everyday life environments, the Marble Ecomuseum passes down the testimonies of material culture, reconstructing traditional life and work habits. The Marble Ecomuseum operates in synergy with the Bossea Caves, which constitute the terminal sector of a large karst system that develops underground in the Bossea Caves Nature Reserve. In 1874, the Bossea cave was the first Italian cave to be opened to the public. Today it is considered one of the most important tourist caves due to the variety and grandeur of its environments and the abundance of water. The Ecomuseum promotes and enhances another cultural reality: In Frabosa Soprana, knives were already being forged at the end of the 18th century; a family tradition that continued until 1960 but then practically died out... The "Frabousan Ki Taiou" Social Promotion Association, an integral part of the Marble Ecomuseum, has set up a cutlery workshop where original artefacts are exhibited and forging demonstrations are held, as well as research and restoration activities on period cutting tools and antique knives, some of which have been kindly donated by the villagers. The Marble Ecomuseum is managed by the Municipality of Frabosa Soprana and is part of the "Piedmont Ecomuseum Network".Discover the activities of the Ecomuseum
