Ecomuseum
Ecomuseo del Freidano

A plain area between Turin, Settimo and Chivasso strongly marked by the presence of man and in close relationship with the river Po: this is the starting point of the story of the Freidano Ecomuseum. Attention is focused in particular on the Freidano river, a canal that since the late Middle Ages has accompanied and conditioned the urban and proto-industrial development of this territory with an important role in the local economy.
In the site of the Mulino Nuovo di Settimo, a precious 19th-century testimony of industrial archaeology, entirely restored and located in the Po river area and along the VenTo cycle route, the Eco-museum presents various museum displays distributed between indoor and outdoor areas.
The exhibition itinerary of the Ethnographic Museum introduces the visitor to an atmosphere of times gone by with interactive exhibits and original objects of material culture to delve into the history and evolution of the area, retracing a journey through the ancient trades of the proto-industrial era. With the industrial archaeology exhibits and the collection of 20th century objects, the journey through memory continues up to the industrialisation of the 20th century that strongly characterised the city of Settimo. During the warm season, visitors are entertained in the Energy Park with interactive and playful installations dedicated to the history of energy over the last two millennia. In the city and on the territory the visit continues in a guided way with walks in the urban area or along the water courses discovering the flora and fauna of the territory. In the complex there is a space entirely dedicated to temporary exhibitions, set up in collaboration with various bodies and associations in the area.
