Ecomuseum
Ecomuseo dei terrazzamenti e della vite
Non in abbonamentoThe Ecomuseum's mission is 'to contribute to the recognition of terraced landscapes as monumental works of the ingenuity, wisdom and patience of human beings, recounting the history, traditions, and lifestyles of the communities that built them in the past and that guard them today'. The Ecomuseum was among the first ecomuseums set up by the Piedmont Region and since 1999 has activated numerous innovative projects capable of identifying and enhancing the local heritage of the Alta Langa, starting with the catalysing theme of the terraced landscape. To date, the thematic sites of the Ecomuseum are three: the interpretation centre on the terraced landscape overlooking the main square of the historic centre of Cortemilia; Monteoliveto, a terraced hill promontory where meetings, workshops, exhibitions, theatrical performances, community festivals and projects on terraced agriculture and biodiversity take place; the circular chestnut drying kiln, located in a small hamlet that can also be reached on foot from Cortemilia, where thematic workshops and activities related to chestnut cultivation take place. Throughout the year, and especially during the summer season, the ecomuseum organises guided tours and activities for the enhancement of the local heritage aimed at locals and tourists.Special attention is recently given to projects related to dry stone building techniques, Dolcetto from the terraces, storytelling starting with the national children's literature prize 'the giant of the Langhe'
