The Clivio Visitor Centre, recently opened to the public, offers visitors a real journey through the hidden treasures of Monte San Giorgio, as well as a virtual journey through the Triassic Sea using digital technology. In five large rooms, the museum houses exhibitions on all naturalistic aspects of the Insubric region, with a special focus on the Monte San Giorgio area. The fossil collection in the Museum has over 4,000 finds from the Valceresio, in particular from the fossiliferous locality of Ca' del Frate/Besnasca on Monte San Giorgio. The collection consists mainly of fish, crustaceans, reptiles and plants, which are widely represented in the showcases. Of particular importance are three specimens of Lariosaurus valceresii represented by complete skeletons, with excellent preservation. In addition to being the only local museum presenting all the naturalistic aspects of the area, it is also the only one with paleontological study collections in addition to the specimens on display. The large park also allows for outdoor educational activities following the stratigraphic route with all the main rocks of the Varese area.
