Museum of Natural Science
Civico Museo di Scienze naturali G. Orlandi

The Museum's rooms follow a thematic path; the visitor first encounters an introductory room where a series of showcases and dioramas briefly illustrate the territorial, environmental and historical context in which the Museum is set, with references to some peculiar aspects such as the working of gualdo, the biodiversity linked to ancient local varieties of fruit and vegetables, and the Sites of Community Interest in the area and the relative valuable species and habitats reported. Then there is an itinerary linked to the archaeological aspects of the city of Voghera, taking a leap back in time, even to more distant times, with the exhibition of a rich collection of local fossils. These include some unique items that make the museum interesting for visitors and scholars alike. These range from finds from the Mesozoic era, such as the remains of an ancient plesiosaur or Apennine ammonites, to evidence of ancient seas from the Cenozoic era, such as the remains of a whale or sharks or invertebrates of various forms. The last part of the exhibition is dedicated to the mammals of the Quaternary period in the Po Valley, such as mammoths, bison, ancient deer and elk... The tour then continues with an exhibition dedicated to the environments and zoological aspects of the area, with a rich collection of vertebrate and invertebrate specimens and references to local botanical aspects.
