Civico Museo Archeologico di Angera

Housed in the evocative Palazzo del Pretorio, a 15th-century building, the Angera Archaeological Museum traces local history from the Palaeolithic to the twilight of the Roman era.

The journey begins in the Prehistoric Section, where the oldest finds from the Varesotto area (dating back 15,000 years) are kept. Here, the experience becomes multisensory thanks to a Tactile Table that allows visitors to discover archaic technology by manipulating raw materials. Continuing into the second room, one is immersed in the Roman periodCeltic jewellery, coins, oil lamps and precious glass bear witness to the vibrancy of ancient vicus. Among the rarest treasures are organic finds, such as the famous “Angera bread rolls” and the Cislago olla, still containing ten litres of ancient seeds. The tour ends under the portico, where the Lapidary exhibits statues, urns and altars.

The Museum is a space inclusive and accessible to all. Thanks to the MABA (Children's Archaeological Museum), children find a tailor-made environment with themed libraries, games and child-friendly stations. Attention to accessibility is total: lifts, equipped bathrooms, Braille captions, paths Describing and numerous tactile replicas guarantee every visitor a complete experience.

Starting point of the Diffuse Museum, the Archaeological Museum is the first stop on an open-air itinerary that has 57 sites ready to reveal the cultural soul of the village.
