CENTRALE IDROELETTRICA DI CRESPI D’ADDA
includedFounded in 1909 to meet the growing energy needs of the cotton mill and the workers' village, the hydroelectric power station in Crespi d'Adda stands next to the pre-existing hydromechanical structure. It was inaugurated on 25 July, on the day dedicated to St Christopher, the patron saint of water.
Although it is the smallest of the power stations on the middle course of the Adda, it is unquestionably the most fascinating: a true jewel of industrial archaeology embellished with decorations in the style late Lombard Art Nouveau. Inside, time seems to stand still between the original parquet floor, the historic control panel and the three Kaplan turbines from 1909. After a period of inactivity that began in 2009, the plant was brought back to life in 2015 thanks to the intervention of the Adda Energy (Gruppo Iniziative Bresciane Spa), which oversaw its restoration and reopening to the public.
